Wisconsin Health Department Earns Accreditation

The Wood County Health Department in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. recently received accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).

Other agencies receiving PHAB accreditation in May 2013 are the Polk County Health Department in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, and Summit County Combined General Health District in Stow, Ohio. They join the seven local health departments and two state health departments that received their PHAB accreditation status in February 2013.

Sue Kunferman, director/health officer for the Wood County Health Department, says the agency began preparations for the accreditation process in 2008, long before the program was launched.

“We began engaging in quality improvement and performance management, and became familiar with the beta test measures that the Public Health Accreditation Board developed,” she explained. Read more in an accreditation Q&A with Sue Kunferman.
